Controlled functionalization of plastic, metal and ceramic surfaces is a requirement for a multitude of applications in the packaging, automotive, electronic, building & construction, and medical sectors. Traditionally, bonding, activating, coating and painting implies a cumbersome, harsh, multi-pass chemical pre-treatment with organic solvents, corona or flame technology. In contrast, Atmospheric Plasma Technology offers a soft innovative alternative. It is an environmentally friendly, economic attractive approach to accurately tailor the surface chemistry for a desired application and adaptable to in-line high speed processing of products.
The Plastic Innovation Competence Center has purchased atmospheric plasma equipment to conduct research with industrial partners in this area.
