In an agricultural sector characterized by increasing production demands and a shortage of skilled labor, the AutoScale project aims to revolutionize practices by combining automation and teleoperation to address sector challenges. Led by HEIA-FR in collaboration with Builtec (Builtronics), LOXO, CertX, and ETA Fragnière, this project addresses key challenges in the development of autonomous agricultural robotics.

AutoScale stands out by integrating the iTARS (Intelligent Teleoperated and Automated Retrofit System), designed to transform the remote-controlled agricultural robot MDB LV500 Pro into a versatile and fully autonomous tool. This system automates tasks such as raking, windrowing, soil treatment, and irrigation. Due to its exceptional adaptability, iTARS plays a key role in the transition to precision farming, offering efficiency gains and a significant reduction in dependence on human resources.

Gabriel Python, project manager and scientific assistant at HEIA-FR, summarizes the ambition of AutoScale: "This project marks a crucial step toward more responsible and sustainable farming, fully harnessing the potential of robots to optimize processes while minimizing the ecological footprint."

The AutoScale consortium brings together multidisciplinary expertise. Builtec (Builtronics) contributes its experience in managing teleoperated robots, LOXO provides advanced autonomous driving algorithms, CertX ensures certifications, and ETA Fragnière offers real-world feedback. Together, they aim to enhance key areas: obstacle perception and detection, trajectory analysis optimized for agricultural terrains, and safe, efficient navigation algorithms.

Certifying this technology is essential for its commercialization. Leveraging its expertise in functional safety, CertX aims to provide partners with a solid foundation for certification, ensuring that each robot meets high standards in both safety and compliance.

Through a collaborative and innovative approach, AutoScale lays the foundations for agriculture 4.0, addressing today's challenges while anticipating those of tomorrow.
